The bioactive compounds within the Turkey Tail Mushroom that promote beneficial physiological activities are beta-glucans, mainly polysaccharopeptide (PSP) and Polysaccharide Krestin (PSK). These beta-glucans are not readily digestible by human intestinal enzymes, however they are thought to enhance the colonisation of good bacteria within the gut which can in turn modulate the immune system and provide abundant health benefits.
Krestin is also seen to promote the activity of leukocytes, a key agent in immune cell response. Further, the Turkey tail mushroom produces an enzyme called Laccase, which has potent antioxidative activity.
